Rep. Arrington Commends SCOTUS on Ruling Against Affirmative Action
Washington,
June 29, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19), former Vice Chancellor for Research and Commercialization for the Texas Tech University System, a major national research institution with nearly 60,000 students in its system, released the following statement on the 6-3 ruling by the Supreme Court finding systematic consideration of race in the college admissions process is unconstitutional. "As a former Vice Chancellor at the Texas Tech University System, I applaud this long-overdue decision by SCOTUS to stop the discriminatory practice of preferential treatment of students based on race. The 14th amendment of the Constitution clearly states – no one has the right to deny any American the right to equal protection under the law. “Punishing or rewarding individuals based on immutable characteristics such as race or gender is unfair, unethical, and unconstitutional. “Universities have an ethical responsibility and Constitutional duty to make admission decisions based on objective qualifications rather than the color of someone’s skin.” To watch additional remarks from Rep. Arrington, click HERE or the video below.
