WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Jodey Arrington led his Republican colleagues from the Lone Star State in a press conference emphasizing Texas’ right to protect their border from invasion.

For the past two congresses, Arrington has introduced legislation affirming Texas’ right to defend its sovereignty, protect its citizens, and enforce the law.

The members encouraged Abbott to exercise his sovereign power to defend Texas as the nation has experienced an unprecedented and unmitigated humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border.

“I commend Governor Abbott for taking on the responsibility that this President has abdicated by stopping the chaos, securing the border, and protecting our citizens. I also encourage the Governor stay the course, stand his ground, and continue to defend the great state of Texas.” said Rep. Arrington. “What Governor Abbott is doing is right and necessary, and completely within his constitutional power and authority.”

Rep. Chip Roy said, "we're going have to decide, as Texans what we're going to do about [the border crisis]. And I just want to be 100% clear, I stand behind Governor Abbott being as aggressive as he needs to be to defend the people of Texas, period, full stop."

Rep. Keith Self said, “Texas has the right to defend itself from invasion – period. I unequivocally support these efforts of Governor Greg Abbot to stop the flood of human trafficking, drug smuggling, and illegal activities on our southern border. If the Biden administration refuses to do its duty to protect America, Texas will."

Rep. Nathaniel Moran said, “The Biden Administration’s priorities are upside down, and the President’s indifference to the crisis at our southern border has left Texas to pay the price for securing our border and enforcing the rule of law. Thank you to Congressman Arrington for gathering us to shed light on this crisis and support Texas’ right to defend our communities.”

Chris Russo, President of Texans for Strong Borders said, “in light of the Biden Administration’s orchestrated invasion, states have a Constitutional and moral duty to protect their sovereignty and their citizens. Recently, however, the Biden Administration sued the State of Texas for simply placing a buoy barrier designed to discourage illegal border crossings near Eagle Pass. Texas cannot and will not back down, and in fact, there is much more work to be done to secure our border. We applaud Congressman Arrington for recognizing the extraordinary powers granted to the states under Article I, Section 10, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution. Every member of the Texas Congressional Delegation should co-sponsor this resolution as a sign of solidarity with the people of our great state.”
