WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) joined House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (OH-04) in support of Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s (LA-01) bid to be the next Speaker of the House:
“Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise both have the conservative convictions, character, and leadership qualities to be an effective Speaker for the Republican led House.
While both candidates received substantial support in today's conference-wide contest, Steve Scalise won the majority of votes earning him the nomination as our Speaker Designate. Republicans need to rally around Steve Scalise so we can unite our team, take the field, and advance our conservative polices like reining in spending, securing the border, and supporting our ally, Israel. With a security crisis at our Southern border, an escalating conflict in the Middle East, and a nation barreling towards a sovereign debt crisis, the stakes have never been higher to provide strong, conservative leadership for our country.
Now, I hope my Republican colleagues will join me, Jim Jordan, and others to secure the 217 votes needed to elect Steve Scalise Speaker of the People's House!”
