– This week, Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) opposed Democrat leadership’s legislation in the House Ways and Means Committee to increase taxes on individuals and small businesses. The proposal, H.R. 5377, would primarily benefit wealthy individuals in high-tax states and threaten to roll back the economic successes of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) signed by President Trump nearly two years ago.
“Some of my colleagues must be living in a different world than everyday Americans or not reading the same economic data when it comes to our country’s historic economic growth, historic job creation, and historically low unemployment,” said Arrington.
“The hyperbolic vilification of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is not credible. It’s not credible to suggest that the tax cuts didn’t help every American and our economy. My amendment, which would protect small businesses from the proposed tax increases was voted down by every one of my Democratic counterparts.”
“The American people are keeping more of their money, their household income is up, their 401K is going up… because the big wet blanket of high taxes and tax of unnecessary regulations have been lifted off of them. In the midst of an American economic renaissance, low tax states like Texas should not have to subsidize the deductions in high tax states like California and New York.”
