Arrington Announces Congressional Art Competition Winner

Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) today announced Audrey Orson of Wylie High School as the winner of the 2018 Congressional Art Competition for the Nineteenth District of Texas. Audrey’s piece, titled “Grounded Generation,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. “With cotton being so important to our region’s identity and economic success, it is encouraging to see a younger generation of West Texan not only appreciate cotton’s impact on our region and to the nation, but to translate that into art,” said Arrington. “Audrey’s artwork will reflect West Texas, the largest cotton patch in the world, in the halls of our nation’s Capitol building, and we look forward to seeing her God-given talent displayed alongside the best pieces from across the country!” BACKGROUND Each spring, members of the U.S. House of Representatives host a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by Congressional Institute. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in Texas’s 19th Congressional District, and began in 1982, bringing in more than 650,000 high school participants. The competition is open to all high school students in our district. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. Her artwork will also be featured on House.gov’s Congressional Art Competition page.
