Washington, D.C. – Today, House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) led his colleagues in slamming the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) potential decision to issue arrest warrants against Israel’s Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces. “The court would set a dangerous precedent that could impact the United States if it proceeded to issue such arrests against leaders of a democratic nation acting to defend itself from terrorism and aggression,” the members wrote. “The ICC would be overstepping its authority by targeting a democratic country’s sovereign authority, especially when that country is not a member of the court. If the arrest warrants are finalized and issued, the Administration should consider imposing sanctions on ICC officials, similar to the June 11, 2020sanctions that blocked property of certain persons associated with the court.” Chairman Arrington was joined by Reps. Crenshaw (TX-02), Bacon (NE-02), Weber (TX-14), Norman (SC-05), Tiffany (WI-07), Burchett (TN-02), Ogles (TN-05), Mast (FL-21), Van Duyne (TX-24), and Moran (TX-01).
