ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - Middle school students took their week off of school to learn more about the United States. Wylie Junior High students got back from their trip to Washington D.C. early Wednesday morning and shared some of their memories from the trip.
While most students are taking a week off from school, some middle school students took this week to learn more about our nation, and in what better place than Washington D.C.
"It was a great chance to learn about our government and what we do there," Wylie Junior High student, Lexie Bayouth said.
Students had the chance to visit lots of monuments and museums.
"A newspaper museum, a spy museum, we went to an air and space museum," Bayouth said.
They also had the chance to talk to Congressman Jodey Arrington on the Capital steps.
"And there he is and he started giving a speech to us," Bayouth said.
The students are learning about the nation's past, present and future.
"I liked the spy museum because it was super interactive and we got to learn what spies do," Bayouth said.
While the trip is all about learning, the kids did have a chance to have a little fun too.
"We also went on a cruise and we got to dance and eat," eighth grader, Kloie Robinson said.
The students got to make new experiences like participating in the Wreath Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery.
"It was a big honor. I was glad I got to do it because not very many people get to," Robinson said.
These experiences will last a lifetime. Abilene ISD eighth graders also were able to go to Washington D.C. and meet Congressman Arrington.
