Lubbock, TX – Today, House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) spoke at a I-27 Signage Ceremony hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation and the Ports-to-Plains Alliance:

I was honored to commemorate today’s I-27 signage ceremony in Lubbock, marking an important milestone for the Ports-to-Plains Corridor. This critical transportation artery will enhance the future of rural America and strengthen our nation’s food security and energy dominance,” said Chairman Arrington. “Since Ports-to-Plains will generate over $50 billion of economic impact to our great state, this project is a game-changer for West Texas. I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen our local economy and open up new markets for our producers.”

“Today is yet another demonstration of the dedication and hard work of Texans,” said Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). “I’m proud to have led the charge in the U.S. Senate to create I-27 — the Ports-to-Plains Corridor. I look forward to seeing more segments completed as we move steadily toward the full construction of this vital artery through Texas.”

Background:

  • In 2022, Congressman Arrington championed legislation that was signed into law to designate the portion of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor from Laredo, Texas through the Panhandle to Dumas, Texas as a future Interstate route, making it eligible for federal funding.
  • In 2024, Arrington celebrated his bipartisan legislation to rename the interstate-designated segments of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor to “I-27” being signed into law.
  • The expansion of the I-27 corridor is critical to linking the energy and agricultural industries to state, national, and international trade, and it is estimated to grow Texas’s GDP by over $55.6 billion in the first 20 years; create 178,600 construction jobs; and add 17,000 long-term employment opportunities.
