Arrington to Abbott: Ensure Smaller Communities Receive Equitable Funding
Washington,
April 27, 2020
Earlier this month, Rep. Jodey Arrington led 6 other Texas delegation Members in writing Gov. Abbott to ensure equitable federal funding is allocated to cities and towns with populations fewer than 500,000 people: "As we work together through this unprecedented crisis in American history, we first want to thank you for your leadership to the Great State of Texas," the letter reads.
"Congress recently passed a third relief package providing significant assistance to families, businesses, as well as state and local governments... This fund was established so that each state would receive their portion of funds based on population."
"Large cities over 500,000 people can request monies directly from Treasury based on their share of their respective state’s population. Small and mid-sized towns receive funds indirectly, through their respective states."
"Please ensure all impacted communities across the state – regardless of size – receive equitable assistance for additional costs related to their COVID-19 response."
