Arrington Applauds EDA Grants to Support Rural Business Development in Abilene and Levelland

Today, Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) announced the City of Abilene was awarded a $1,837,500 investment grant through the Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) FY 2020 Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Program. Additionally, the City of Levelland was also awarded a $1.5 million in EDA investment grant.

“Securing these funds is a big win for future opportunities in Abilene and Levelland. This local and federal investment in critical infrastructure will most certainly provide a brighter outlook for future growth and prosperity in West Texas,” explained Arrington.

Abilene will use the funding to improve two local roads that provide access to Abilene’s Five Points Business Park. The Development Corporation of Abilene will provide a 30% local match of $787,500. EDA projects this grant would create 89 jobs, save 27, and leverage $12.7 million in private investment.

Levelland will use the funding to complete the construction of Progressive Place Road, a water line loop, sewer lines, and construct rail spurs to serve Levelland Industrial Park. The South Plains Association of Governments will match the grant with more than $1.5 in local funds. The project is expected to create at least 25 jobs and leverage $2 million in private investment.
