Arrington Joins Colleagues Urging SCOTUS Review of Election Integrity
Washington,
December 11, 2020
WASHINGTON – Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) released the following statement regarding the Amicus Brief to the Texas petition to the Supreme Court of the United States he signed onto yesterday:
“Article II of the Constitution unambiguously delegates to state legislatures the responsibility and authority for establishing the rules and parameters of their elections. In the months leading up to the election and in the weeks following, entities outside of state legislatures including governors, secretaries of state, and unelected officials made material changes to rules dictating election practices. In order to uphold the Constitution’s protections of state sovereignty and election integrity, I believe the Supreme Court should carefully review any departure from state legislatures’ sole authority to alter election laws.
“Unlike the Texas petition and its many and broad claims, our amicus brief is specifically tailored to questions related to states’ Article II authority and the constitutionality of election law changes. Regardless of whether or not they alter the outcome of the election, addressing these concerns is paramount to upholding the Constitution, ensuring the integrity of our elections, and protecting our democratic process.”
Note: Due to a clerical error, Rep. Arrington’s name was left off the original brief despite signing onto it yesterday. |
