Arrington Statement on the Fy19 Defense Authorization
Washington, DC,
May 24, 2018
Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) today released the following statement after the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019(H.R. 5515). Among other key achievements, the FY 2018 NDAA makes a critical investment to rebuild our military, ensuring they have the capacity and resources to confront potential threats abroad, and it authorizes a 2.6% pay increase for our military servicemembers, the largest pay increase in nine years.
“With continued uncertainly in the Middle East and the Korean peninsula, it is critical, now more than ever, that we sufficiently fund our military and its operations to remain the strongest fighting force in the world,” said Arrington. “This NDAA demonstrates our commitment to rebuild the military and make key investments in our readiness; at the same time, we give our troops a long-overdue and well-deserved pay raise so we can continue to recruit and retain the very best soldiers, sailors, and airmen America has to offer.
“One of the United States’ greatest assets in our national security arsenal, and one of the crown jewels of West Texas, is Dyess Airforce Base. This NDAA authorizes full funding for Dyess for operations and critical missions such as the development of the next generation bomber, the B-21, so Dyess and West Texas can continue to play a leadership role in protecting our democracy and our allies against emerging threats.”
