Reps. Arrington and Panetta Request President Biden Designate Supply Chain Czar

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Reps. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) sent a letter to President Biden requesting that he temporarily designate a supply chain coordinator, or “czar,” to address problems that have plagued our supply chain and continue to wreak havoc in certain sectors of the U.S. economy. Establishing a central point of command at the White House on supply chain issues would provide significant relief to critical industries like agriculture, healthcare, and defense.

“The nationwide supply chain problem is affecting every industry from ag producers to auto-manufacturers and eventually hits the pocketbook of every American,” said Rep. Arrington. “I am proud to join my friend and fellow Ways and Means Member, Jimmy Panetta, in imploring the President to prioritize this particular issue which has proven to be a formidable challenge to our economy.”

“Product shortages and higher prices need to be addressed with a coordinated, whole of government approach that will provide substantial relief to working families,” said Rep. Panetta. “Getting goods and services to American consumers shouldn’t be a partisan issue, and that’s why we are sending this bipartisan and common-sense letter on an issue that both our constituents care about deeply. While supply chains are improving with the decisive actions of President Biden, a designated coordinator would help to further alleviate the remaining bottlenecks we have at our air, land, and seaports across the country.”
