Rep. Arrington Hosts Western Caucus in West Texas at Texas Tech University

Lubbock, TX - Today, Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) will be hosting members of the Congressional Western Caucus in Lubbock, TX to showcase West Texas as the nation’s leading region for agriculture and energy production, education, and R&D. The Western Caucus will hear first-hand about the challenges and opportunities facing West Texas farmers, ranchers, and energy producers, as well as the agriculture and energy innovations being developed at Texas Tech University.

Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Chancellor of Texas Tech Dr. Tedd Mitchell, Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11), and several other Western Caucus members will speak at a media availability at 4:15 CST today, highlighting how West Texas is providing food and energy security to our nation.

“I am proud to host my fellow Western Caucus Members this week and highlight how important West Texas is to our nation’s food security and energy independence. West Texas and rural America isn’t just our country’s breadbasket and energy basin, it’s the backbone of America’s traditional values of faith, family, hard work, and common sense. I also want West Texans to know and be encouraged that there are other Members of Congress fighting for our values and interests in Washington.” —Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19)

“Today was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the excellence within our universities of the Texas Tech University System and welcome federal leaders from six states across the country to Lubbock, Texas. We are proud to have world-class faculty and educational offerings at Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center — two of our five universities in the TTU System. Texas Tech’s agricultural sciences and natural resources programs are among the best in the country, and TTUHSC has been our state’s leader in telemedicine for the past three decades. Our university leaders and I appreciate Texas U.S. Reps. Jodey Arrington, August Pfluger and Ronny Jackson — along with Chairman Dan Newhouse — providing an insightful and valuable experience to members of the Congressional Western Caucus so they can witness firsthand how our institutions of higher education directly impact the economy and citizens in our communities, our great state and beyond.” —Texas Tech University Chancellor Dr. Tedd Mitchell

“The Western Caucus is one of the most influential coalitions in Congress, and it is field tours like this – hearing directly from folks in West Texas – that help us work effectively on behalf of rural America. I’m looking forward to learning how the hardworking men and women of Texas’ agriculture and energy industries are leading in innovation and working as exemplary stewards of our land to feed the world and fuel our nation. West Texas couldn’t have stronger representatives than Congressmen Arrington and Pfluger, and I’m grateful to them for inviting Western Caucus Members to their districts to see this firsthand.” —Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04)

“West Texas’ abundant energy and agriculture production make our region essential to American national security. It is an honor to host Western Caucus Members from around the country to learn what we do to feed, clothe, and power not only this country, but the world. This visit will allow them to see first-hand why we must put Midland over Moscow, promote American energy dominance, and continue supporting our farmers and ranchers.” —Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11)

Look for a full wrap-up of the Western Caucus' trip to West Texas coming soon.
