WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Rep. Jodey C. Arrington (TX-19) issued the following statement on the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. “I cannot fathom the profound pain and suffering the families involved in the Uvalde shooting are experiencing. As a father of three elementary school children, I share the sense of desperation and helplessness that all parents feel on the heels of every school shooting. It sickens me. It breaks my heart. It even scares me for my own kids. And, if I could pass legislation that would stop a person like the Uvalde shooter from his hellbent, murderous rampage, I promise you, I would. At the deepest level, there are serious cracks in our societal and familial foundation. I don’t believe any legislation will heal that brokenness, and attempts to do so, often distract us from dealing with the root causes of these tragedies. Unfortunately, the more degradation of our culture and dysfunction in our families, the more diligent we have to be to protect our communities. We have to orient the whole of society to strengthen families and renew our faith in God and love for our fellow man. Good parenting is the first line of defense against most social ills, and the peace and purpose that comes from faith in God is paramount to a healthy and moral society. Beyond those foundational issues, we must continually do the following: We must be diligent to identify high-risk individuals and intervene with the necessary services. We have to fully support law enforcement, make sure they are well-coordinated at all levels, and restore a culture of law and order. We must also strengthen security at our schools - public safety should be our top priority. And, finally, we must protect the rights of parents, teachers, and all law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms against the evil that will always exist in this fallen world,” said Rep. Arrington. Rep. Arrington also appeared on American Agenda on Newsmax to discuss the tragic shooting in Uvalde, TX with Bob Sellers and Katrina Szish. Click here or watch below: |
