Arrington Votes Against Corporate Welfare for Semiconductor Industry

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19) released the following statement regarding his vote against the CHIPS-Plus Act, legislation that would pave the way for higher taxes and inflation.

“America must compete and win the economic war with China, but we cannot abandon our principles of free enterprise and resort to government subsidies. Market forces unleashing the private sector – not government grants and central planning – is how we beat China and win the 21st century.”

Background on the Legislation

With $30 trillion in debt and at a time when Democrats’ reckless spending policies have led to historically high inflation, the CHIPS-Plus Act would clear $280 billion in new spending and mass subsidies.

Instead of industry-specific grants and tax credits, broad based incentives would do more to increase the United States’ global competitiveness. Congress should instead enact powerful, pro-growth policies to allow all American companies to compete and win in the global economy.
