Arrington Opposes Democrats' Recycled Assault Weapons Ban

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19) released the following statement prior to a likely vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on Democrats’ H.R. 1808 – legislation that would ban hundreds of commonly used firearms, grossly infringing on law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment rights. “The Democrats’ recycled ‘assault weapons’ ban from the 90s is another failed experiment in gun control. Here are a few reasons to reject this throwback ban on semi-automatic rifles: even the liberal 9th Circuit Court ruled it unconstitutional; it was tried in the 90s and failed miserably; murders went up nearly 20% during the ban (1994-2004) and declined 43% after the ban expired. To be clear, knives ‘assault’ four times as many people as rifles, which make up only 3% of all gun related homicides.” ###
