WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19) voted against the Democrats’ tax-and-spend legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives and debated in opposition prior to its passage on the House Floor. “Another false [Democrat] promise under the guise of a grandiose title the ‘Inflation Reduction Act.’ Nobody in America believes this bill will reduce inflation; in fact, it’s going to make inflation worse,” said Rep. Arrington. “…Mark my words, this bill will further fuel inflation, deepen our recession, cripple our competitiveness, and increase costs at the pump.” Click here to watch Rep. Arrington’s full remarks. Full Remarks as Prepared Madam Speaker, The last time my Democrat colleagues used reconciliation to jam through a partisan spending spree and progressive wish list under the false pretense of COVID recovery, they not only failed to “Rescue America,” they destroyed our recovery efforts and sent us spiraling into a recession. Now, in the aftermath of their self-inflicted economic disaster, my Democrat colleagues’ response is to run the very same play and expect a different result. Another false promise under the guise of a grandiose title, the “Inflation Reduction Act.” Nobody in America believes this government expanding, spending monstrosity will do anything but make matters worse – and they’re right. This bill will… Impose massive tax hikes on job creators; Strangle domestic oil and gas production; Unleash an army of 87,000 IRS agents to shakedown working families and small businesses; Crush American medical innovation; And hand out hundreds of billions of dollars in Green New Deal giveaways that jeopardize American energy security, putting America in a position of weakness like our allies in Europe. This inflation-fueling package will deepen our recession, cripple our competitiveness, and increase the price at the pump while unilaterally surrendering energy independence to our adversaries, China and Russia. And with that, I yield back. ### |
