Arrington Introduces Access to Future Cures Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19) introduced the “Access to Future Cures Act,” forward-thinking legislation designed to help working families use pre-tax money to pay for preventative services.

Millions of Americans may develop a condition or disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and macular degeneration. An individual’s preserved healthy blood cells can be used to develop cell-and-gene-based therapies to address these conditions. The “Access to Future Cures Act” will allow individuals to use their Health Savings Account (HSA), Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), and Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA) to store healthy blood cells, allowing them to prepare for the possibility of needing cell-and-gene-based therapies.

“Blood storage technology is yet another example of American ingenuity at the cutting edge of medical science, one that can have fundamental positive impacts on future health outcomes.” said Rep. Arrington. “This bill will empower American families to take preventative healthcare measures into their own hands using their pre-tax dollars.”
