WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19) made the following statement after voting against legislation in the House of Representatives that would codify same sex marriage:

“The Democrat-led Senate amendment to HR 8404 — which codifies same sex marriage — would fundamentally alter the definition of traditional marriage by terminating the bipartisan Defense of Marriage Act. Furthermore, this legislation fails to protect the religious liberty of all Americans and is also, unfortunately, being used as political fodder to weaponize interracial marriage – which is distinct from same-sex marriage and has long been supported in this country.”
