WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Jodey Arrington (TX-19) issued the statement below following a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on Democrats’ intention in releasing former President Donald Trump’s tax returns: 

“It was clear from today’s hearing that this was about political vengeance, not real process reform. There is absolutely no legitimate or defensible reason to release President Trump’s private tax returns. Any credible effort to evaluate the Presidential Audit Program, which was the Democrats’ pretext for this exercise, would have included information from other presidents, hearings and debate, and safeguards for private citizens’ information. The Democrats’ unprecedented decision to weaponize the tax code against political opponents will unleash an arsenal of political abuses – not only on politicians, but every taxpaying American citizen.”
