Arrington Statement on REIN IN Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) released the following statement after voting in support of HR. 347, the REIN IN Act. This legislation would require the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to submit inflationary impact statements in conjunction with the president’s Executive Orders costing over $1 billion.

“The American people know that Congressional Democrats’ reckless spending has caused 15 consecutive months of record-high inflation. Workers’ paychecks are shrinking, small businesses are struggling to staff up, and our economy inches closer to a recession every day because of Democrats’ insatiable desire to spend.

“No president in modern history has taken more executive actions at a higher cost to taxpayers and with a greater burden on hard-working American families. In just 23 months of his first tenure, President Biden added $1 trillion through executive orders to our national debt, exacerbating the inflation crisis that is wreaking havoc on our economy.

“The REIN IN Act would require the administration to submit inflationary impact statements for any major executive order with an annual budgetary impact of at least $1 billion. The American people deserve transparency about how Biden’s unilateral fiats – like canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline, padding federal employees’ salaries, and bailing out student loans – are impacting their pocketbooks.
