Arrington Legislation to Improve Services for Disabled Veterans Signed into Law

“Currently, disabled veterans who need special modifications to their homes are stuck in a broken system with long wait times and mediocre services,” Arrington said. Arrington’s bill transfers responsibility for home adaptations from the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program to Specially Adapted Housing agents. These agents have both the competency and capacity to speed up construction projects, providing more effective and efficient services to our disabled veterans, and saving taxpayers money. “Someone injured while serving our country in the military deserves nothing less than the highest level of excellence from their government. This common sense solution is sorely needed to save taxpayers money and, most importantly, help our disabled veterans by putting the right people on the job to address their needs in a timely fashion. “With this bill becoming law, we are doing the two most important things the American people expect from their leaders: working together to solve our nation’s problems, and delivering on our promises to honor our veterans,” Arrington continued. “I send my deepest appreciation to President Trump for signing this important legislation and for ensuring our nation’s veterans get the same level of care and service they gave us.” Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, added, “We as a nation have a duty to take care of the men and women who have been injured as a result of their service. I thank Rep. Arrington for his leadership on this bill that would ensure that veterans with disabilities are provided with the absolute best in-home adaptations to improve their quality of life.” Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Executive Director Dan Caldwell said, “This bill reinforces the primary role of the VA: ensure veterans get the care they need, when and where they need it. This bill ensures veterans with service-connected disabilities get the care they need and allows them the freedom to live independently. We commend Rep. Arrington for his diligent work on this important bill.” Click here for more information and click here to read the bill.
