WASHINGTON – Tuesday, Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) sent the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) a letter stressing the importance of rural hospitals receiving COVID vaccine shipments as soon as possible. Despite the fact that 15% of the state’s population lives in rural areas, rural hospitals were excluded from the first round of vaccine distribution.
“Rural hospitals throughout West Texas have been fighting to care for our communities just as hard as our friends in urban areas,” stated Arrington. “I am concerned that rural hospitals were left out of the first round of vaccine distribution, and I will do everything in my power to ensure providers and patients in TX-19 can access this much needed preventative measure going forward.”
