Pro-Life Legislation Cosponsored by Arrington Passes House
Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation cosponsored by Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) that restricts abortion after 20 weeks, or five months, of pregnancy. Additionally, the legislation establishes criminal penalties for those who perform or attempt abortions against unborn children after 20 weeks.
Scientific studies have demonstrated that at 20 weeks, unborn children can feel pain, and according to the Susan B. Anthony List, H.R. 36 could save approximately 12,000-18,000 babies per year.
Arrington gave a speech on the House floor today in support of the legislation.

Below is a full transcript of Arrington’s remarks:
“Mister Speaker, I cannot think of a more important issue to get right than protecting the God-given souls of the unborn and their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
“I will never forget listening to the heartbeat of my first child, Nathan. I cried all the way to the car, praising God for this miracle, and the words of the Psalmist came to me, ‘You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.’
“Currently, the United States is one of only seven developed countries that allow elective abortions after 20 weeks -- that puts us on the same moral equivalent in this regard to China and North Korea - with 13,000 late term abortions performed annually in the United States.
“Mister Speaker, I rise in support of H.R. 36, I stand with the vulnerable and the voiceless, and I kneel in submission to the author of life and ask for his blessings on this country and this initiative.”
