WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) joined Budget and Spending Task Force Chairman, Congressman Kevin Hern (OK-1), and fellow members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) to unveil RSC’s budget for Fiscal Year 2022 that will reduce spending by over $14 trillion, balance the budget in 5 years, and cut $2 trillion in taxes. It’s hard to be brief when you’re talking about the single most important issue and the single biggest threat to the future of our country. Admiral Mullen responded to the question, ‘What is the greatest national security risk?’ – he said, ‘The national debt.’ “Folks, when the American people on both sides of the aisle say, “Washington is broken,” this is Exhibit A. When our citizens, our fellow Americans, and our constituents say that the politicians in Washington play by a different set of rules, this highlights that in spades. Because we don’t operate like the American families, individuals, businesses, local or state governments! And I’ve proudly served under the leadership of Kevin Hern. This is a guy who’s run a successful business, he’s managed budgets, he’s lived responsibly within his means, and that’s what every American does – but not their federal government. “So, we’re $30 trillion in debt and climbing. $100 trillion in deficit spending by 2050 -- that’s the projection. Folks, we’re beyond unsustainable. And if we ever trip the wire or see the dominos start to fall, we can’t put it back. The sovereign debt crisis will not only compromise the national security of the greatest nation in the world, it will jeopardize our freedoms, our prosperity, and our way of life. “Every generation has stepped up. Every generation of political leaders, on behalf of their fellow Americans, to make the sacrifices and do the tough things that have to be done. All of the easy choices are gone! To get to the five-year balanced budget, you see deficits – you’ve got $3 trillion in deficits just this year, and we’re not even halfway into it! “The easy stuff is done. We’ve got to make hard choices, or we’re going to lose our country. That’s the bottom line. I could go through the list of things that need to be changed at the fundamental root level that are causing this dysfunction, like the fact that we don’t have to produce a budget, and so we don’t. Like we don’t have to balance things, so we don’t. Like we can use gimmicks to pay for stuff. Like every time we put some control like a spending cap on the floor or debt limit, we toss it aside. “I’ve got confidence in these men and women that stand behind me and I’m proud of the leadership of Kevin Hern and Jim Banks. But here’s the real test… when we get the majority in two years – and we will get the majority because the American people aren’t buying what is being sold today – every one of you have to hold us accountable on our implementing this budget proposal. “God Bless and Go West Texas.” ### Congressman Jodey Arrington is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives serving the Nineteenth Congressional District of Texas. He serves as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.
