Rep. Arrington Releases Statement Following Gov. Abbott’s Border Security Executive Order, Appears on Fox News

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) issued a statement and appeared on Fox News following the announcement of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order authorizing the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas National Guard to apprehend and return illegal immigrants to the Southern border.

“President Biden has refused to enforce our immigration laws and surrendered control of our southern border to drug cartels, violating the constitution, and creating an invasion of the state of Texas. Texas is experiencing an onslaught of record human trafficking, drug smuggling, and other dangerous criminal activity pouring into our communities and threatening the lives of our citizens,” said Rep. Arrington. “I commend Governor Abbott for exercising our state’s constitutionally protected right of self-defense by mobilizing Texas military and law enforcement to apprehend illegal immigrants and secure our sovereign border.”

H.J. Res. 50 Background:

  • Congressman Jodey Arrington has been calling this an invasion for more than a year now. In June 2021, Rep. Arrington introduced H. J. Res. 50, a resolution affirming Article I Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution which recognizes states’ sovereign power to defend themselves against invasion when the federal government fails to do so.
  • In an op-ed on the resolution carried by Fox in June 2021, Rep. Arrington said, “The Constitution also clearly states the federal government ‘shall protect each of [the states] against invasion.’ But ask anyone living in our border states and they’ll tell you: President Biden won’t even acknowledge the invasion, let alone take the steps necessary to protect them.”
  • 62 Members of Congress representing 26 states have cosponsored Rep. Arrington’s H. J. Res. 50, demonstrating broad Congressional support for the concept of states’ sovereign right to repel an invasion and defend their citizenry from overwhelming and “imminent danger.”
